If you want to be happy, you’ve got to have the courage to let go of what’s keeping you down.

Therapy for Depression

We all experience periods of sadness when things aren’t going our way.  Sometimes we can work our way through the sadness, other times the cloud is so thick that we can’t do it alone.

Are you Depressed?

If you are depressed, most likely you have a combination of the following symptoms:

·       Feelings of sadness

·       Difficulty getting up in the morning

·       Sleeplessness

·       Loss of appetite

·       Loss of desire

·       Loss of interest in activities you previously enjoyed

·       Hopelessness

What is Depression?

Depression is an extended period of sadness. It usually covers up something more serious going on beneath the surface. Depression is a cover-up for emotions that people never felt safe enough to express.

Beneath depression usually lies:

·       Anger

·       Fear

·       Dreams that never materialized

·       Disappointment

·       Shame/Guilt

As a therapist, I help uncover the root of my client’s depression. As my client’s acknowledge previously repressed emotions they begin to feel immediate relief.

How Do I Treat Depression?

I help my clients address depression on multiple levels:

First, I walk you through understanding the unique cause of your depression. I will help you understand whether it is learned or something you picked up to survive.

I will help you identify the triggers of your depression. I will help you recognize what increases and decreases it. I will also give you strategy for releasing it.

I use a three-prong approach when working with clients with depressed symptoms:

Psychodynamic Therapy - Understand how your upbringing served to create the symptoms you are experiencing.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – Identify the negative thoughts and feelings that support your depression. Replace these with more empowering thoughts.

Interpersonal Therapy – Understand the role your current environment plays in your negative emotions. Release the people and things that contribute to your feelings. Set boundaries with people who trigger your negative emotions.

Depression is Treatable

You don’t have to live with depression. You can pull back the layers, get to the root of it and learn to do things differently.
